Newton Chelette has served as the Interim Vice President of Student Services, Dean of Kinesiology, Dance, Athletics & Visual and Performing Arts at Antelope Valley College. He holds a BA degree in Business Education and a Master’s degree in Physical Education from McNeese State University in Lake Charles, LA. He is presently serving as Athletic Director at Antelope Valley College and as the Head Boys Basketball Coach at Paraclete High School. After retiring from coaching basketball for 17 years at Antelope Valley College, Newton was inducted into the California Community College Basketball Coaches Hall of Fame in 2008.

He is very involved in the community. He serves on the Board of Directors of the Antelope Valley Sheriff’s Booster Club where he was chosen Director of the Year for 2011 and has served on the Board of Directors for the Boys & Girls Club of the Antelope Valley and the City of Lancaster’s Criminal Justice Commission.

Born in Iowa, Louisiana, Newton has been a resident of Lancaster since 1989. He raised all 3 of his children here in Lancaster.
